Face to face with a Tuatara

Tuatara has very strong front and back legs.

Tuatara means spiny back in maori.

Tuataras closest relatives lived 65 million years ago.

Tuatara can move quite quickly but only for a short distance.

Tuatara is not a lizard it is the only living member of the  sphenodon family.
